Find out more about the new Mechatronics course unique to Newcastle TAFE
Mechatronics is the combination of mechanical engineering and electronic systems
David Leask, Head Teacher of Electronic Trades from Hunter Institute of TAFE is very passionate about the new Mechatronics course which will be unique to Hunter TAFE Newcastle Campus. This course will be done with the collaboration of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Electronics Department. This course is seen to be providing a solid grounding in Mechatronics for individuals to enter the workforce or to go onto University to study Mechatronics. It is envisaged to commence at the beginning of 2013.
Ben, a Year12 student from Lambton High is about to take part in the National World Skills Competition in Sydney, this is like the Trade and Engineering Olympics. Success at this level could lead to him representing Australia in the 2013 Worldskills International competition in Germany and competing in Mechatronics division. Currently he spends one afternoon a week at TAFE as well as time at home training solely for this competition. The course that he is currently studying at TAFE is TVET Electrotechnology. This mode of study has enabled Ben to broaden his knowledge of Electronics where he pushing the boundaries of analogue and digital Electronic systems. He is operating with an astounding level of proficiency in microcontroller programming and applying this technology to electro mechanical systems.
