The ME Program was delighted to sponsor 10 Hunter students to attend the WAI Australia National Conference, which was held at the Mercure Hunter Valley Gardens Resort on Friday 28th – Sunday 30th of September 2018.
Girls from Hunter River High School, Callaghan Wallsend Campus, West Wallsend High School, St Mary’s Catholic College and St Joseph’s Catholic College East Gosford attended the Conference that aimed to promote, engage and inspire the next generation to consider a career in aviation and aerospace industries.
The conference focused on engineering (aviation and aerospace) and technical trades (logistics, avionics and aircraft technicians). It provided an opportunity for the girls to hear industry speakers and participate in workshops on various other fields in the industry such as RPAS (Drone) technologies, flying training (airplane and helicopter) and aviation management (air traffic control, airports and airlines).
It also provided an opportunity for attendees to connect and network with leaders from within the aviation and aerospace industry and Defence Force Recruiting and learn the importance of STEM in defence careers.
As part of the three day conference, students joined 40 other ME Program student representatives who were invited to tour RAAF Base, Williamtown to see the specialty facilities developed to house the new Joint Strike Fighter.
