What is Your Role/Job Title? | Executive Manager Operations and Compliance |
Describe what a ‘normal’ working day is for you. | My working day varies. It generally begins with an Executive Team briefing regarding our daily priorities and challenges. I often then go into meetings with my respective teams to ensure those priorities flow down through the organisation.
As an Executive Manager my day will involve providing advice, guidance, and support to my team. I will also invariably get involved, hands-on, with key organisational issues and projects around the airport. |
What are some desirable skills and characteristics that someone in this role should have? Which of those can or are learnt on the job?

Initiative; critical thinking, leadership; ability to communicate at all levels, both written and verbally.
The specifics learnt on the job are those that are specific to aviation and defence. I have had to develop myself regarding the technical aspects of running an airport. |
What education is required for this role? | Bachelor of Business, Master of Human Resource Management, Masters of Business Administration- these are the degrees I hold, however there may be other relevant tertiary qualifications for this position. |
What subjects or education do you recommend complimenting the required education? | Leadership, business, specific aviation courses; including Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO). |
What future roles or positions within aviation could this lead to? | Chief Operating Officer, CEO, other General Management roles (hopefully) |
What has been your favourite experience in this industry so far? | My favourite experience to date has been the first International Flight in 16 years to Auckland. This was a day that was the most challenging I have experienced. It involved leading a large team of committed people that worked together to achieve the best outcomes for the Airport and the community. |
What Made you choose this career path/When did your love for aviation begin? | My love of aviation only began when I commenced at the airport. I have loved every moment. Learning about the different aircraft that operate from Williamtown, both RAAF and civilian. |

What skills or knowledge have you brought to your role in aviation form other your previous careers or non-aviation jobs? | Human Resources, Management. |
