A small group of ambitious students formed into groups and flew across the track into the F1 in Schools State Competition. There were six teams in the beginning, four teams were in the Cadets category while the other two were in the Development Category. They had three months to design an F1 racing car and the presentation to go with it.
Three teams qualified for the State Championships. These teams had another three months to redesign their cars and presentations for the upcoming competition.
We all met in Sydney at the Western Sydney University for three days to race and present to the judges. Although no teams qualified for the National competition, everyone was impressed about how far the first Callaghan College Wallsend Campus competitors reached and how they performed.
The Wallsend Wombats achieved the Knockout Racing Award, meaning that they had raced with all the development teams and won. Although Peel Racing and Speed Demons didn’t receive any awards, they were worthy competitors and also had a great time.
“We all had an amazing time and although we didn’t make it into the National Championships, we all put in an enormous amount of effort and did pretty well if I say so myself.” Jake Burgess (Wallsend Wombats)
