Callaghan Campus principal June Hingston discusses the benefits of being a school partner of the ME Program.
The three campuses of Callaghan College have seen substantial benefits from their participation in the Me Program and with our industry partner, BAE Systems. The major benefits for College staff have been professional learning experiences with the industry through teacher emersion and liaison with BAE- Systems. Teachers have had time to work in teams to develop more engaging and relevant curriculum materials. Their skills and knowledge have been significantly enhanced and they have reported that this is making a positive difference to their classrooms.
Students have also benefited fromwork experience, guest speakers and industry visits. Their knowledge of careers ain advanced manufacturing and the defence forces has greatly expanded through their participation in the Me Program. The partnership with BAE Systems has been invaluable in providing information and experiences for staff and students, not normally available to schools.
The funding in this program has been used to purchase high end teaching resources for the campuses in specialist areas including megatronics, robotics, engineering studies, science and 3D CAD design. Staff have had professional development and training to incorporate these new technologies into classroom programs and pedagogy. A very dedicated team of teachers from across the College has effectively led the Me program and this has enhanced professional networks. The Me Program has made a significant impact on teaching and learning at Callaghan College and has improved student outcomes and future career paths.
