The Certificate III Aviation students are only weeks away from completing their final assessments before they are fully qualified commercial remote pilots. The students have put in at least 5 hours of flight time with a DJI Phantom 3 and Phantom 4 to prepare themselves for the practical assessment. The final test involves a theory exam, pre and post flight safety checks, an air radio call and accurately manoeuvring the drone on a set course around witches hats. This year the students have also taken part in a 2 day work placement servicing and testing drones at UAVAir in Mayfield West which they all loved.
What does the future hold? Many businesses are looking to incorporate drone technology into their daily operations and need qualified pilots that can confidently and safely know how a drone can help them do their job faster, safer and more accurately than before. I am sure our students will seek out these opportunities and use their new skills to their benefit.
“I enjoyed the day I flew the drone around the big fig tree. We took around 40 photos and from that we created a 3D model. That was cool.”
