RDA Hunter’s ME Program was thrilled to run the 2020 Hunter F1 in Schools™ Regional Final on Tuesday 25 August 2020 with the racing being filmed in the main aircraft hangar at Fighter World, Williamtown. While COVID-19 restrictions hampered students from attending the event, teams from Mount View HS, Glendale Technology HS and St Philip’s Christian College – Newcastle worked hard over the last few months to engineer and manufacture their cars for the competition.
Running a competition in a virtual format this year saw participating teams submit their posters, portfolios, engineering drawings and verbal presentations online which was then judged by an independent scrutineering and judging panel of Boeing Defence Australia employees. The cars were then filmed being raced down the track at Fighter World with racing videos and results released to schools last Friday.
Race highlights from the event included Zeus Racing (Mount View HS) recording the fastest lap with a 1.255 second run within the Cadet Class. Professional Class team, Zenith Racing recorded the fastest lap of the day with a 1.214 second time in their second run of the day.
The successful teams from the Regional Final who will be representing the Hunter at the Virtual State Finals in November are:
CLASS | TEAM NAME | SCHOOL |
Cadet Junior | Zeus Racing | Mount View HS |
Night Phoenix | Mount View HS | |
Cadet Senior | Tachyon Racing | Glendale Technology HS |

Zenith Racing from St Philip’s Christian College – Newcastle took out the Overall Winner for the Regional Final achieving the highest score of all teams participating in the competition.
The ME Program would like to thank the students and schools for their participation in the 2020 Hunter F1 in Schools™ Regional Final, industry partners Boeing Defence Australia for providing personnel for the scrutineering and judging panel and the Re-Engineering Australia team for supporting the event.
RDA Hunter would also like to thank Fighter World’s staff and volunteers for moving the aircraft out of the main hangar to accommodate the racetrack and hosting the competition race day.
