As part of the ME Program teaching students at the University of Newcastle (UoN) have the opportunity to gain valuable paid placement in industry to understand how the subjects they will teach are used in the workplace. Currently Studying: Bachelor of Mathematics/Bachelor of Secondary Education at University of Newcastle
Why I chose this degree: Prue has always wanted to become a teacher and she loved maths at school. She wants to change highschool students perception of maths, by making it more interesting and relevant.
Future Plans: Ideally, to teach in Newcastle or her hometown of Port Macquarie
My involvement in the ME Program: Through doing site visits to various manufacturing industries within the Hunter, Prue has realised how important and how much Maths is used within these industries. It is not only used by engineers and architects, but also for example fitter and machinists, boilermakers and sheet metal workers. By visiting these industries Prue was able to see real life examples of maths being used every day and take these examples back to the classroom, showing students the relevance of maths in the outside world.
